Robert Barker
Photographer
Robert Barker has over three decades of experience in commercial photography. He has received numerous honors for his work in editorial, fine art and advertising—working in both still and video production. He co-founded a photography studio in 1980 working on assignments that took him around the world for clients that included Corning Inc., Eastman Kodak Company, Gannett and Xerox. A genuine interest in people is the driving force behind his work.
In 1995 Robert accepted a position as the director of photography at Cornell, helping to create and brand the visual direction for the university. He has taught photography as a guest lecturer at Rochester Institute of Technology, Ithaca College and Cornell University. He has done a number of collaborations, most recently with the Dutch artist, Berndnaut Smilde, on his celebrated Nimbus Series.
When not looking through a viewfinder, Robert enjoys fine food and wine; playing golf, skiing and hiking; and, having grown up in California, wishing he still had the strength to catch decent size waves. He loves watching his grown children’s personal journeys, and being emotionally grounded by his wife.
